At its December 2025 meeting, the Board approved its governance-level Diversity Plan, developed in accordance with Section 37(1)(e) of the Community Safety and Policing Act, which requires police service boards to prepare and adopt a diversity plan to ensure that policing reflects the community it serves: London Police Service Board’s Diversity Plan
The Board’s Diversity plan is high-level, focusing on governance expectations, accountability, and oversight. It sets the standards and outcomes the Board expects but does not prescribe how the Service operationalizes them, as that will be through the Service’s own EDI plan, which falls under the purview of the Chief and will address operational execution, including internal procedures, training, and frontline interactions.
This plan was developed through the Governance Advisory Committee, with input from the Service and a review through an external EDI lens to ensure alignment with broader community expectations. It is also intended to be a living document that evolves as the board’s strategic planning consultations progress.
The Plan outlines the Board’s oversight approach to diversity, the Board’s own accountability and accessibility measures, and Board priorities for the Service in operationalizing the plan. This includes reflecting the multiplicity of the community, ensuring inclusive, merit-based recruitment pathways and equitable representation, building cultural competence, and reporting outcomes using data-driven metrics. Adopting this plan strengthens role clarity, alignment, and consistency with the Board’s strategic and legislative responsibilities.
Board Diversity Commitment: The London Police Service Board is committed to building a police service that reflects, respects, and includes the broad diversity of the community, embracing all identities, experiences, and perspectives.
Over the past year, the London Police Service Board advanced key public safety priorities, strengthened its governance foundation, increased visibility of Board initiatives, and supported an accountable and transparent approach to oversight.
The London Police Service Board's September Meeting has been moved to the 11th of September and will be dedicated exclusively to budget matters.
