The London Police Service Board (LPSB) announces that the Province of Ontario has concluded Member Megan Walker’s term on the Board.

London, ON – The London Police Service Board (LPSB) announces that the Province of Ontario has concluded Member Megan Walker’s term on the Board.

Ms. Walker served on the Board from February 3, 2022, to June 25, 2025, including a two-year term as Vice-Chair.  She brought with her a legacy of public advocacy, a deep commitment to community care, and a comprehensive background in ending male violence against woman and girls.

Member Walker was a driving force behind the London Police Service Board being the first police governance body in Canada to formally and publicly recognize femicide as a distinct issue that requires targeted action.  More information on the LPSB’s commitment to addressing male violence against woman and femicide can be found here.

The LPSB extends its sincere appreciation to Ms. Walker for her significant contributions to the Board and the community, which helped build a safer and more inclusive London.  She approached her role with curiosity and compassion, and will be missed for her progressive values and genuine kindness.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Board and my two years as Vice-Chair alongside the former Chair Ali A. Chahbar,” says Ms. Walker.  “I am proud of the work we have all accomplished together, from hiring Chief Truong to modernizing the service and raising awareness about legislating and naming femicide.  Femicide is preventable, but sadly, too many women and girls are victims, and more needs to be done across all levels of government to continue these efforts.  London is well served by all its members, sworn and civilian, and I am grateful for the important work they do to keep London safe.”

Chair Ryan Gauss expressed gratitude on behalf of the Board: “It has been a privilege to work alongside someone as passionate as Megan. Her dedication to driving change, protecting and empowering women and girls, and championing the legislation of femicide has left an indelible mark on our Board and our community.  Her energy and vision have made our city a better place, and we wish her continued success in her ongoing work.”

The LPSB remains committed to advancing the critical work Ms. Walker was a part of during her tenure, and continues to prioritize inclusive, transparent, and community-centered police governance.

The London Police Service Board is comprised of seven members: three elected members from the London City Council, one community member appointed by the City Council, and three persons appointed by the Province of Ontario.   There are currently two provincial vacancies on the Board, and we are awaiting further information regarding the appointment of new representatives to fill these vacancies.
