The Board promised Londoners A Safer City Now; this philosophy is embedded in every aspect of our decision-making. The London Police Service Board (the Board) is pleased to announce the extension of Chief Thai Truong’s contract, ensuring stable leadership of the London Police Service (the Service) through to December 31, 2031.
This contract extension affirms the Board’s confidence in Chief Truong’s leadership skills. Since assuming the role in 2023, Chief Truong has overseen a period of progress and modernization within the London Police Service. Under his guidance, the Service has introduced new technologies and community programs, including the Open-Air Substance Use Strategy and the creation of nurse-police response teams to address immediate, low-acuity health needs, thereby connecting vulnerable individuals to appropriate services. Chief Truong has reimagined frontline operations to improve service delivery and has placed a strong focus on employee wellness, ensuring that LPS officers are well-equipped to serve. These efforts have contributed to a historic two-year, 19% reduction in crime severity, response-time improvements for the first time in over five years, and safer neighbourhoods across London.
“This Board embarked on a mission to make the City of London safer,” said Board Chair Ryan Gauss. “Through strategic budget decisions and targeted hiring investments, we aimed to position the Service to meet both current and emerging community needs. Chief Truong has translated these investments into tangible results, and the Board recognizes the importance of thoughtful and committed stewardship. Over the past two and a half years, Chief Truong has led this organization with remarkable vision and purpose, and stability in leadership is essential to sustain this momentum.”
“I am deeply grateful to the Board for its confidence and trust,” said Chief Truong. “The credit for our progress belongs to our members and community partners. We have modernized our approach to serving, and we will continue to listen, show up, and do the hard work safely and fairly. With the Board’s continued support, our Executive Command Team will continue to invest in our people, build the next generation of leaders, and strengthen the relationships necessary to keep our community safe. It is an honour to continue serving London.”
The London Police Service Board will continue to take the necessary steps to maintain a police service that meets the standard the public expects and deserves.
