Public meetings of the London Police Services Board are generally held on the third Thursday of every month. They are a forum for Board members to carry out their oversight responsibilities in an open and transparent setting.

These meetings typically include updates from the Board and Service. They also cover budget decisions and reports to monitor the progress of policing priorities and performance. These meetings give the community and media an opportunity to observe how key decisions about policing are made and how civilian oversight is applied in practice.

Attending a public Board meeting offers community members an opportunity to better understand how civilian oversight works, what issues are currently being addressed, and how the Board carries out its responsibilities on behalf of the community.

There are certain considerations under which a Board may hold a meeting that is closed to the public, and these can be found in the CSPA.  This includes labour, HR or personal matters.

What’s on the Agenda?

  • Mandatory Reports: These include annual or periodic updates required under the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA). The topics covered include use of force, public complaints, training, crime statistics, and specific operational areas.
  • Adequacy Standards Reports: These demonstrate how the London Police Service is meeting the Adequacy and Effectiveness Standards, which outline the minimum requirements for policing services in Ontario. These standards relate to core police functions such as crime prevention, emergency response, criminal investigations, and support services.
  • Presentations: From police leadership or community partners on various initiatives.
  • Policy, Budget, and Strategic Items: Including reviews or approvals related to police service operations and planning.

The full meeting schedule is posted on our website. The proposed agenda is posted one week prior to each meeting, and the complete agenda package including all reports and the livestream link is posted one day before the meeting.

Why Attend?

Members of the public can view the meetings via livestream or even attend in person. While these meetings aren’t open forums for public discussion, attending them still serves an important purpose.

By attending, you gain a first-hand view of how key decisions about policing in London are made. It’s a valuable opportunity to see civilian oversight in action and better understand the issues that affect policing in our city.

Attending a Board meeting is an excellent way to stay informed, even without speaking, and to better understand how policing is shaped at the governance level.
